No more work in the future?

No more work in the future?

At a recent US-Saudi forum, two of the biggest names in technology—Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang—sat down to discuss the transformative future of AI and robotics. The conversation offered a fascinating glimpse into how these industry titans view the changing landscape of labor, infrastructure, and the economy.

The End of Labor as We Know It? Elon Musk made a bold prediction that humanoid robots are set to become the largest product in history. He argued that this technology has the potential to eliminate poverty entirely and, perhaps most radically, make human labor optional. In Musk’s vision of the future, “work” transforms from a necessity into a hobby—something we do only if we want to.

Or Will We Just Be Busier? Jensen Huang offered a counter-perspective. While acknowledging the shift, he suggested that AI-driven productivity won’t necessarily leave us with nothing to do. Instead, he believes it will make us busier by freeing us up to pursue more creative ideas. To illustrate his point, Huang cited the field of radiology: despite fears that AI would replace human radiologists, the demand for them has surprisingly increased as the technology has made them more efficient and capable.

Beyond the “AI Bubble” Addressing concerns about an “AI bubble,” Huang explained that the industry is undergoing a fundamental shift from general-purpose computing to accelerated computing using GPUs. He argued that this transition is not a temporary hype cycle but a necessity due to the end of Moore’s Law. We are moving toward an era of “AI factories” designed to generate unique, real-time content rather than simply retrieving pre-existing data.

AI in the Sky Perhaps the most sci-fi highlight of the talk was Musk’s prediction regarding infrastructure. He argued that the massive energy and cooling requirements of future AI will eventually exceed Earth’s capacity. His solution? Moving major AI compute infrastructure to space within the next five years. Musk posits that solar-powered satellites are the only scalable solution to power the next generation of intelligence.

The discussion concluded with concrete steps toward this future, announcing a new 500MW AI partnership involving xAI, Nvidia, and Saudi Arabia. Whether we are heading for a life of leisure or a new era of hyper-creativity, it is clear that the infrastructure being built today will reshape our tomorrow.
